TYWLC RECEIVES TRANSFORMATIVE GIFT FOR NEW HOME
Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center (TYWLC) is thrilled to announce that a donation of $500,000 has just been committed to support their organization to the planning and construction of a state-of-the-art Wrestling and Learning Center in downtown Trenton. The benefactor, Don Grasso, a Princeton University Alumnus, former collegiate athlete, and philanthropist announced his intention to honor his fellow classmate and friend with this gift.
Mr. Grasso said in a statement: “I have been supporting the Cardinal Hayes High School for Boys for several years now. Seeing these young men develop and thrive through sports like football has inspired me to focus my philanthropy on underserved boys and girls. When my lifelong friend and fellow Princeton classmate Jay Stuart made me aware of Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center’s initiative, I jumped at the opportunity to support such a worthy cause. Sports teach valuable lessons to youngsters about discipline and merit-based achievement. I believe their work is critical in developing children during the formative period before they enter high school. With the wrap around services of mentorship and tutoring that Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center provides, I am certain they will produce many Scholar Athletes in the future. Although some may see this gesture as a gift, I see it as an investment in the future of Trenton boys and girls. I also thought it important and appropriate to honor my dear friend, Jay, who has dedicated his entire life to coaching wrestling and mentoring kids.”
Director of Operations, Raamiah Bethea, stated: “Mr. Grasso’s generosity and devotion to helping children is inspiring. We are thrilled to welcome him into our family and eager to continue to expand our impact in our hometown of Trenton.”
In early 2025, TYWLC will launch a comprehensive capital campaign to raise additional funds for the construction of their new complex and programs.
The Trenton Youth Wrestling and Learning Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to providing wrestling and educational opportunities for young boys and girls in the greater Trenton, New Jersey area. This year-round program aims to promote personal growth, build self- esteem, and develop lifelong skills through the sport of amateur wrestling.
The Center employs a distinctive approach that combines wrestling (physical exercise, team building, and life skills), education (character development, literacy, arts, and experiential learning,) and community service. This integrated model helps to shape Trenton's youth into well-rounded, confident young people ready to take on the world.
